Gargi Movie Review - A staggering accomplishment

This to me is one of the best films of this year so far. The ending word is so powerful and it shows there’s an underlying bed of hope in this world "If one decision can change the world that is not the end but the beginning". Its a very difficult subject that is handled in a sensible and a sensitive way. Its challenging, hard-hitting drama about sexual abuse, its aftermath and vulnerability of justice system. The story is told from the perspective of the main protagonist Gargi who is a school teacher and how a major event in her family, changes her life forever. Her seek for justice thus begins. It has the right mix of emotional richness, expressiveness, and depth in writing accompanied by subtle BGM from Govind vasantha.

Its a daring attempt and a reflection of the society we live in where things are taken for granted and judgement are made easily. You are guilty until proved innocent from Day 1. It’s a tough watch, but it’s a rewarding one, not just because it has one of the best performance of the year from Sai Pallavi, but because of what it says about hope and empathy. We dont see exaggerations and the useless drama that often accompanies such stories, but what we get to see is a strong, necessary and refined product.

Verdict - 4/5(The Crime and punishment)
