RRR Movie Review - A Jai Ram, Jai Bheem Entertainerlu

Updated: Mar 28, 2022

Grandeur in modern Indian cinemas are usually associated with two directors one is Sanjay Leela Bhansali and then there is S. S. Rajamouli. In the past few years, both have mastered the art of epic scale story telling, eye whopping set pieces, playing with super rich color gamut and on top of that SSR focuses more on keeping the entertainment quotient high. The 3R period-fantasy is a combination stoRy,fiRe and wateR mostly works as a means of pure theater experience. In terms of story telling and bringing them all together, its a missed opportunity. Its a pulse check on what audience expects from him and how he met those with an outrageous energy, crafting and vision. Not many Indian film makers can match this epic scale caliber of SSR.

There are plenty of WTF and WTH moments in this epic long 3 hour movie which is inconsistent at many junctures. Its audacious, mind blowing, relentless and sometimes totally senseless in its depiction. Here story takes a back seat and superlative ideas and insane action sequence takes center stage. The interval block attack unleash , the annihilation mode climax with Ram(bo) avatar are just terrific and i was like WOW!!! that was one stylish execution. It mixes fire, water and Indian mythology to give a clap worthy experience. The Naattu song is one of the best choreographed sequence i have seen in South Indian cinemas recently.

A convincing macho man performances from both Jr. NTR and Ram Charan is a paisa vasool one, its like Batman and Superman combo on fire. The two characters gets an expected introduction and that goes with the saying what the doctor ordered. If you ignore the disbelief, lagging second half and at times some significant over the top narration, then this one fits the bill of entertainment at its best. Keeravani BGM amplifies the entire story telling to a different level. If you are looking for story depth and real historic depiction then those will be disappointed. End of the day not many people mind these trade-off for a damn good theater experience. I really was finding to get the tickets for weekend which has never happened to me in last two years.

Verdict - 3/5(Chills and Thrills)
