Sonchiriya

The latest from Udta Punjab director Abhishek Chaubey is a contemporary fictional drama about the harsh lifes of rebels in Chambal. Named after a bird (Son-Chidiya aka a rare bird found in Chambal area), this film ultimately is about redemption that everyone is seeking. With some intense gun battles, a soothing musical background driven fights and with a tight script the finding of the inner truth story felt genuine. There are heavy dose of issues, dealing with social discrimination, caste and morals which are being told in a matured style. I loved the way they shot how the dacoits enter the village, announce themselves and then start the loot. The first half was really captivating and intriguing with power packed dialogues which are laced with humor. Second half felt bit repetitive and we all knew what is coming. Luckily the film had subtitles otherwise its was too tough for me to understand the dialects. Another plus point was the casting, it was pitch perfect, nobody stands out but every one shined.

Verdict - 3.5/5(Justice for all)
